Language & Gastronomy programme

Gastronomy has made France famous the world over. The French language and gastronomy are closely linked, with the latter enriching the former in terms of the vocabulary and language structures used to describe products, prepare them and enjoy them. Here, we love to eat and take our time to share a meal with those we love. It's even said that when French people are at the table, their favourite topic of conversation is precisely... the table and its pleasures, the preparation of a menu, a dish, and so on.

By offering this Language & Gastronomy stay, Language & Culture hopes to combine learning/consolidating the French language with the pleasures of the table, with culinary workshops specially prepared in French as a Foreign Language so that trainees can improve their French while discovering a part of French gastronomy and the culture of the table.

Learn French while you cook

The programme is given as an indication only. Changes may be made for each stay.

For this stay, the trainees are staying at the "Dans les Arbres" ("In the Trees") gîte in Lanta, just 1/2 hour from Toulouse in the Lauragais countryside. They will be welcomed by Cloé and Olivier, the owners, who will also be hosting some lunches, dinners and events throughout the week.

The stays run from Sunday to Friday and include accommodation, French lessons with a teacher of French as a Foreign Language, 4 culinary workshops adapted for learners of French and giving rise to language activities and exercises to help progress in French, a visit to the workshop of the famous chocolate maker Criollo followed by the screening of the film "Le Chocolat" (with Juliette Binoche and Johnny Depp) and a conversation in French about the film and a gourmet tour of Toulouse on the last day.

The culinary workshops are as follows

- gourmandises" workshop with pastries

- preparing a quick French-style lunch" workshop

- market discovery and lunch preparation" workshop, during which the trainees go to the village market and buy the products they need to prepare their lunch. This is a very good language exercise where the trainees have to do their shopping in French (vocabulary and grammatical structures seen beforehand).

- The "traditional meal" workshop, during which trainees spend the afternoon preparing a traditional family meal, as is often done on Sundays with the family.

The workshops are run by Céline from Mademoiselle Fourchette and Cloé. The gourmet tour of Toulouse is led and organised by Gabrielle from Farinettes et Cie. Trainees are transported together from Toulouse to Lanta by minibus on Sunday and from Lanta to Toulouse on Friday morning before the gourmet tour. During your stay, you will also have the opportunity to live ‘à la française’ by doing your shopping in the village for the 3 dinners and 4 breakfasts for which you will be completely independent in the gîte.
